Online Catalogue Period Hardware
- an older system than today's more common mortice locks, which are fitted in the edge of the door
- these locks and latches are suitable for use with all the rim knobs shown in the section below
- they are dual-handed, which means it doesn't matter whether they face left or right on the door
- highly authentic reproductions which would look perfectly at home in any period setting
- none of our designs are lacquered, so they will continue to age gracefully over time!
- rim knobs tend to have detachable backplates and are used with rim OR mortice latches
- rim locks or latches are metal boxes fitted on the door surface (see the section above for examples)
- mortice knobs have two backplates which are usually fixed, and are ONLY used with mortice latches
- mortice locks or latches (a more recent development than rim locks) are fitted in the edge of the door
- the term merely denotes a non-turning knob which is used to pull the door shut behind you
- to illustrate this fact, these knobs are sometimes also referred to as door pulls
- we supply several stunning designs in coloured glass and brass
- the brass is cast in the Midlands and the glass comes from Bohemia!
- from simple ceramic designs through to a lovely crystal model with starburst
- we also supply beautiful brass and wood versions, either reeded or plain

- these work well together with the range of door knobs also shown on our website

- most of our bell pulls and pushes are made by an English company which was established in 1904
- the company is still going strong today and using many of the original patterns!
- unlike the originals, these letterplates are mostly of fairly generous proportions
- this makes them highly functional (suitable for today's mail) as well as attractive
- this section will soon be expanded - do visit us again soon!
- today, fingerplates are still an opportunity to apply a touch of expression to your home's interior
- as in the old days, they are still useful for protecting the finish of the door
- we offer a good range in brass or copper (some are pressed and some are cast) and porcelain
- many are made at a brass foundry in the Midlands, and are copied from original designs

- this gives a stunning effect of dark brown/black, tinged here and there with deep red/ochre
- these kinds of fittings are truly wonderful if you wish to achieve a rustic look
